Diagnosing Healthcare at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival

  • Historic Hoover Theater 1635 Park Avenue San Jose, California, 95126 United States (map)

Join us for a special screening of Diagnosing Healthcare, our most awarded documentary yet.

We're proud and excited that the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) chose to show the full-length film. They're also hosting a community discussion with local healthcare experts right after the screening.

The film follows the history of medical injustice against Black Americans, from the Tuskegee syphilis study and J. Marion Sims to the disparities in care that still exist today, including the crisis in Black maternal and infant mortality.

After the film, Director Kenan Moos joins Dr. Nneka Chukwu (Washington Health / USF), Dr. Jesse Ikeme (UCSF School of Medicine) and Dr. Tiffany C. Brown (UCSF Health / Silicon Valley Black Nurses Association) for a conversation about who gets heard, believed and cared for in our healthcare system.

This part of the festival is free. Bring your family, friends and questions.
